Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the chemical composition of an Azolla genotype (A.mexicana) and to compare it with other organic fertilizers. In this study the chemical composition was analysed as follows; Nitrogen 3.92%, Phosphorus 0.52%, Potassium 1.25%, C/N 10:1, dry mass value 4.5-6.3%, Crude protein 23.3% and Chlorophyll 0.1-0.2 mg/gr. As a result, it could be concluded that A. mexicana could be a fertilizer alternative to mineral fertilizers on the basis of organic matter by enhancing the organic content of soil by decomposing in a short period.
