Abstract

This research was conducted at Alaşehir county of Manisa province in the western Turkey in 2003 and 2004. The varieties tested are Maverick, Brasco, C- 955, Dracma, Doge, Tietar and Vero. Significant differences were found among the varieties for plant height, number of green leaves per plant, stem diameter, dry matter content(%), dry matter yield and herbage yield. Plant height of maize genotypes varied between 155.18 and 206.75 cm; number of green leaves per plant between 10.9 and 13.6; stem diameter between 2.06 and 2.38 cm; dry matter(%) between 27.60 and 35.01; dry matter yield between 16.27 and 23.14 t ha-1 ; herbage yield between 55.98 t ha-1 and 72.97 t ha-1. It was concluded that C-955 cultivar was superior to other cultivars for dry matter yield and herbage yield.
