MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TILLERS PER PLANT IN HIGH-YIELD ANDMULTI-SPIKE TYPE WHEAT IN SOUTHWEST CHINA

Abstract

To research on the characteristics of tillers and spike formation per plant and their relationship with the composition factors of yield in high-yield and multi-spike type wheat in the special ecological environment in southwest China, 3 spike types of wheat were selected to use as experimental materials. With the methods of investigation in field, the stereoscopic anatomical observation and the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), some parameters including emerging time of tillers, apexes growth index, content of Gibberellin (GAs), Indole acetic acid (IAA), Mitogen (ZR), Abscisic acid (ABA) and Zeatin (ZT) and grain filling rate in tillers. The results showed that comparing with the other two spike-types wheat, the content differences for adjacent tiller in GAs, IAA, ZR and ABA (0.59, 1.01, 0.129, 1.01 ng. g-1FW) are the minimum on average in the multi-spike type. The ratios of IAA/ABA (0.65), ZR/ABA (0.08) in secondary tillers are the highestbut the IAA/(ZR+ZT) (1.06) is the lowest, which the three ratios have the least minimum gaps to about the ratios in primary tillers. The least minimum gaps of SOD (20.39 vg-1.min-1FW), POD (18.63 vg-1.min-1FW), CAT (1.119 vg-1.min-1FW), SP (1.76 mg. g-1FW) and MDA (0.252 umol. g-1FM) was observed in adjacent tillers. The mean gaps of grain filling rate were 0.121-0.165 mg.G. d-1 in adjacent tillers, and the mean value was minimum. Summing up the above, among the three spike types of wheat, the more coordination and synchronism on appearance and growth for all tillers in the multi-spike type wheat, which makes the tiller-earing easily, that is conducive to the reasonable composition of yield factors per plant and the breeding of breakthrough varieties under the special ecological environment in the wheat region of southwest China
